david.jpgRegistered Forester David B. Gehle earned his B.S. degree in Forestry Management—with a concentration in business—from Colorado State University.  During college, he spent two summers with the U.S. Forestry Service:  once in Oregon as a member of a District Fire Crew, and the following year in Idaho, as part of an Interregional Fire Crew.

Upon graduating, David worked for Georgia Pacific as a land management forester in Gulf Hammock, Florida.  His work brought him to Sandersville and Lawrenceville, Georgia, where he purchased the logs from land owners, brokers, and logging contractors for Georgia Pacific’s plywood and chip-n-saw mills in Georgia and Alabama. It was during this time that David also honed his timber appraisal skills.

Honing his skills during his tenure at Georgia Pacific, David helped develop a strategic plan for company woodlands (105,000+ acres in Levy County, Florida) for sustainable high-yielding growth and timber production.  This included actual inventory and accurate mapping.

During this endeavor, David supervised three logging crews and assigned harvesting management blocks of the company land holdings.   These harvests included first and second thinning on planted pine, thinning on natural uneven aged stands, and clearcutting in manageable sizes.

Additional duties involved supervising site clearing and slash disposal, burning, and planting the next improved crop of trees -over 1,000 acres each season.

Seeking the challenges and rewards of being an entrepreneur, David established his own firm, Mylander Forestry, LLC, in April 2007.  Mylander is a family name, a tribute to David’s Grandfather and a way to make his memory and his ethics a part of David’s forestry firm.

David grew up in Colorado, enjoying Boy Scouts, football, hiking, camping, and backpacking. The Denver native now makes his home in the Atlanta area.  He is the District Chair and an active inspector for the Tree Farm Program. He is married, has 4 children, and is a member of Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church.
